So this is out of my miatas limited slip diff that I was in the process of shimming. the car is 'stock' under the hood, and had a stock clutch (there is no clutch now, i need to order one). this would have emitted a loud bang when breaking, but i cant remember ever hearing one while drift-i mean driving it

Are those supposed to be together in some way?

Sorry, I don't know how differentials work.

Low lubricant is most likely, Excessive spinning of one wheel on a slippery surface is another. Remember that a diff that does not spin the same on both sides creates a tremendous load on the spinning side and throws the lubricant off the bearing surfaces.
